The first Greenhill United Methodist Church was built on Moss Gate Road in 1847. A larger chapel (picture above) became necessary and building started in 1870. The new church closed in 1963 and was demolished.

The first Chapel on Refuge Street dated from 1835. The chapel in this photo was built in 1845 by the United Methodists and was later demolished in order to build a larger one on the same site.

The newly built Refuge Street Chapel & School, Shaw, opened in 1902.
