Members of our Irish branch have for several years been transcribing and indexing the baptism, marriage and burial indexes - in so far as they survive - of Roman Catholic churches in the Roman Catholic diocese of Salford. Most of the registers for churches in Manchester have been completed and work is beginning on those for Salford.
When registers are completed, the transcript and indexes - and increasingly images of the original registers - are published on CDROM or DVDROM. We offer copies of these publications, as well as similar transcripts and indexes published by Salford Diocesan Archives and the Catholic Family History Society, for sale in our online shop
We have compiled a Catholic Register Index which contains all of the names which appear in these publications to help you decide whether you may have ancestors among these records
A flying visit to Limerick in November, a few years ago, afforded us a chance to look for some Irish ancestors. Fortunately we were able to garner some details of the family from the Society's database before we went. The Irish Ancestry Team continue to transcribe Catholic church registers. Would you be willing to revive the Irish Amcestry branch?
MANCHESTER & LANCASHIRE FHS was formed in 1964 and is now one of the largest family history societies in the world. Although the Society is united by a common interest in Genealogy and Family History, members also pursue interests in closely related fields.
